Painting Courses and Retreats

New Course
EXCITING NEWS - Cat has a new long weekend course scheduled in October in the UK. Places are now available! It will be held at a studio space in South Oxfordshire. This is likely to be Cat's only course in the UK this year.
If you can't make this course, Cat has created and filmed a series of tuition videos on YouTube. She will be adding more over the coming months and look out for her Patreon with extra content.
Courses with Cat Croxford
Discover the joy of painting luminous, atmospheric treescapes that draw viewers deep into the woods. Join Cat’s immersive course in a beautiful Oxfordshire studio, where you’ll master the essential skills of acrylic painting while creating your own vibrant, light-filled treescape.
Cat’s weekends are thoughtfully designed to inspire confidence and creativity. Through a balance of group demonstrations, one-to-one guidance, personalised feedback, and gentle critique, you’ll receive the individual attention you need to make real progress — whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your technique.
You’ll work with professional materials: premium acrylics from Liquitex and Golden, plus high-quality brushes from Silver Silk. Everything is provided so you can focus purely on painting and enjoying the process.

Course Location
You will be learning in a artists' studio deep in the South Oxfordshire countryside. Near Wallingford, Mays Farm Studio is a light-filled converted barn situated on a working farm, nestled in rolling hills, found at the end of a tree-lined driveway.
Everyone has their own easel and table to work from, there is a seated area to have lunch.
There is plenty of parking and the studio is easy to find, detailed map and instructions will be provided in your Joining Pack.
What's Included
All materials including paint, canvas and any other equipment you need to paint. You need only bring clothes that you don't mind getting paint on. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. And cake.
Lunch is NOT included, so bring something for each day, there is a fridge for storage.
Woodland Streams
Inspired by Cat’s latest paintings, this exciting new three-day course invites you to paint a captivating woodland stream composition full of atmosphere, energy, and natural beauty.
Over three immersive days in the studio, you’ll follow Cat’s clear, step-by-step demonstrations as you build a complete painting featuring trees, foliage, rocks and flowing water. Cat will guide you through each element with dedicated studies and focused practice, so you feel confident tackling every part of this complex scene.

What you'll Master
-
How to simplify and break down complex forms so they become enjoyable and manageable to paint
-
Creating convincing depth and dimension through use of tone, colour, and layering
-
Understanding perspective and movement to bring your stream to life — with sparkling light, reflections, and the gentle flow of water
You’ll work on stretched canvas and use black underpaint to achieve dramatic contrast and luminous highlights.
This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your observational skills, refine your acrylic techniques, and create a vibrant, light-filled painting that truly captures the immersive magic of a woodland stream.

"Thanks Cat, and thanks for a terrific weekend. You work so hard, and work us hard too – which was exactly what I wanted; to be pushed to go further. I learned such a lot from you because you are an excellent teacher, particularly your ability to talk clearly as you demonstrate what you’re doing. Thanks for all your input and encouragement – and the fun!"
"I'd just like to say again how much fun you made the course and such a brilliant teacher, I still can't believe how much I achieved in such a short space of time"
"Thank you so much Cat for sharing some of the insights that you have gained in such an informed, encouraging and sensitive way - I am inspired to take more steps"
"You are an inspiring teacher and gave me the confidence to pick up a paint brush and apply paint to a canvas (a first for me!)"
